Four thermal power plants to be built this year  (11/03/2009) 
The Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) said it will start construction of four coal-fueled thermo-electric power plants with a combined capacity of 3,800 MW this year.

They are Nghi Son 1, Mong Duong 1, Duyen Hai 1 and Vinh Tan 2.

This year, the group also plans to put into operation nine power works with a total capacity of 2,700 MW, including Pleikrong, Se San 4, Buon Kuop, Buon Tua Srah, Ba Ha and Ban Ve hydro-electric power plants and Hai Phong 1, Quang Ninh 1 and O Mon 1 thermal power plants.

The EVN said it will also focus on developing power grid projects to ensure energy security and improve the quality of power distribution.

To meet power demand which is forecast to increase by 14-15 percent in 2010 over 2009, the group will strive to operate new power sources totalling 2,300 MW, including the first turbine of the Son La Hydro-electric power Plant, the Srepok 3 Hydro-electric power Plant and the Quang Ninh 2 and Hai Phong 2 Thermal Power Plants
